Open BIM specialist XBIM unveiled as the winner of the DEFINE Hackathon<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Xbim<\/a>, a developer of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software services and platforms for the construction sector, has been unveiled as the winner of Define Hackathon event<\/a> \u2013 after demonstrating how its platform could integrate with a digital data dictionary to undertake a life cycle assessment.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Six global construction software companies were involved in the Hackathon, which was hosted online over the course of two days by Cobuilder<\/a> <\/span>– a Norwegian software provider and technical administrator of Define. Each company was given the objective of connecting to the Templates API found in the Define data dictionary\u2019s demonstration context.<\/p>\n

All organisations taking part explored a use case focusing on environmental data and looked at how Define\u2019s API could help them obtain the information required to make carbon footprint calculations. This API integrated with each company\u2019s digital solution or system before the results were showcased.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was fantastic to see organisations connecting with our data dictionary and benefitting from the free flow of information this creates to meet complex environmental data collection requirements. The winning contribution needed to offer a practical and realistic solution to making the calculation, that was relevant to the market and would provide value to end users. To achieve this, Xbim firstly validated a BIM model against properties from Define, ensuring a life cycle assessment could be made.<\/p>\n

It then carried out an automated embodied carbon assessment, drawing on data from the model. Properties consistent with Define\u2019s templates were augmented and the results were visualised in Xbim\u2019s cloud-based viewer \u2013 before its BIM model was extended using specifications and standards from Define.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

London-based start-up Morta finished as runner-up in the Hackathon, while Norwegian technology company Catenda took third place. The top three companies will present their use cases and findings in further detail during a Cobuilder webinar early next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>
